Short Descr
Dehradun is one of the oldest cities of India and nestled in the lap on the mountain ranges of the Himalayas. It is recently declared as the Provisional Capital of newly created Uttaranchal state, now Uttarakhand. It is a favoured tourist destination attracting a lot of tourists. Its noted fro its special Basmati rice, Tea and Leechi gardens that add to the charm of the city. It houses a lot of National Institutions like the ONGC, Survey Of India, Forest Research Institute, Indian Institute of Petroleum etc and Premier educational and training institutes like Indian Miltary Academy, RIMC(Rashtriya Indian Military College), Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy(IGNFA), Lal Bahadur Shahstri National Academy of Administration etc. It is also known as the 'Abode Of Drona' as it is believed that the great sage Drona is believed to have sojourned for a season in Deharadun.

Located in the Doon valley, surrounded by the Himalayan mountains in the north, Shivalik Hills in the south, and the rivers Ganga and Yamuna in the east and west respectively, Dehradun basks in temperate climate throughout the year. Once a strong hold of the Garhwal kings and later appropriated by the British as a residential resort, the town has several institutions and public schools which are famous for the kind of education they provide. The climate comes in useful to the growth of fruit trees and Dehradun is famous for its fruit orchards. Another thing for which it is very famous is Dehradooni Basmati Rice.
