Jammu and Kashmir Hillstations

The state of Jammu and Kashmir is declared a 'paradise on earth' because of its marvellous natural beauty. Majestic Himalayas, snowy valleys, plenty of pilgrims and stunning lakes form the identity of this 'crown of India'. J&K's hill stations make you experience the outstanding heights and engaging climate. A few destinations offer tranquil peace in cool natural surroundings, while some are known for various adventure sports. Kashmir hills and valleys have a number of beautiful lakes, flower gardens and steep mountains to explore, and Jammu has plenty of lakes and steep hills. Ladakh region is highly influenced by Buddhism, therefore you can find countless monasteries surrounded by snow clad high mountains and snow deserts.

Gulmarg

Gulmarg is located in Baramulat district of Jammu and Kashmir, 57 Km away from Srinagar. Gulmarg is famous for its winter sports and other adventure activities. Highest Golf ground of the world is also located in Srinagar. Every year Skiing, Heli-Skiing, Snow Boarding competitions are organised in Gulmarg, which attract a large number of adventure freaks from around the globe. One can also enjoy a Gandola ride in Gulmarg, which presents a bird's eye view of the mesmerising hill station.

Leh

Leh is a hill resort with several attractions. The capital of Ladakh has been the center of Tibeto-Buddhist Culture since long. Its colorful gompas attract the devout Buddhists from far and away. Leh also is a favorite hiking locale that is thronged by adventure seekers. The lovely landscapes and the majestic mountains of Leh attract adventurers and tourists alike. The best time to visit Ladakh is in the summer months i.e. between the months of June and August. The road is open thus the transportation to and from Leh is easy in summers. In winters the temperature at Leh goes below zero degrees often.

Ladakh

Ladakh is a land abounding in awesome physical features, set in an enormous and spectacular environment. Bounded by two of the world's mightiest mountain ranges, the Karakoram in the north and the Great Himalaya in the south, it is traversed by two other parallel chains, the Ladakh Range and the Zanskar Range. Ladakh offers many options for undertaking adventure activities amidst landscapes of spectacular, rugged beauty. These mainly include river rafting, mountaineering and trekking. The famous pashmina (better known as cashmere) also came down from the high-altitude plateaux of eastern Ladakh and western Tibet, through Leh, to Srinagar, where skilled artisans transform it into shawls known the world over for their softness and warmth.

Pahalgam

Situated at the confluence of the streams flowing from Sheshnag Lake and the Lidder river, Pahalgam (2,130 m) was once a humble shepherd's village with breathtaking views. Now it is Kashmir's premier resort, cool even during the height of summer when the maximum temperature does not exceed 25Deg C. Around Pahalgam are many places of interest, and because the resort is set between fairly steep hills, it is worth hiring a pony rather than walking. Pony fares are posted at prominent locations. One can indulge in Horse Riding, Golf, Fishing and Trekking.

Sonamarg

Sonamarg is a tranquil hill station, located in the north-west part of India in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is amidst the Himalayan ranges at an altitude of 2740 m above sea level. Sonamarg is 80 Km north-east of Srinagar, the capital city of Jammu and Kashmir. Since it serves as a take off station for Ladakh, it is called as the "Gateway to Ladakh".

Encircled by snow-covered mountains, Sonamarg is a wonderful summer destination for tourists. This hill station has a lot of lakes, water falls, passes and scenic spots.

Srinagar

Srinagar is the capital city of Jammu and Kashmir and a famous hill station of India. Srinagar lies on the banks of river Jhelum, which is a tributary of Indus river. Srinagar is famous for its Dal Lake and beautiful houseboats. Other important attractions of Srinagar include traditional handicrafts, Kashmiri shawls and dry fruits. Main attractions of Srinagar include Hazratbal Shrine, Shankaracharya temple, Dal Lake, Mughal Gardens, Jama Masjid and Wular Lake.

Aru

Far from the stress, dust and pollution of he urban life, Aru welcomes you to the tranquil and serene meadow, approximately 107 Km from Srinagar. Located at a height of around 2408 meters, Aru is famous for the Lidder River, Lidderwat meadow, Kolahoi Glacier, conifer spread mountains and trekking opportunities. The dense woods is home to various birds and wild animals. The best period for blooming of nature during summer is considered between May To September, while in winter it is November To February. The melodious chirp of birds, the cool breeze, open blue skies, green-golden grass, crystal clear waters and misty mountains all around make Aru one of the best hill stations in the Kashmir region.

Dah And Hanu

Enjoying sheer isolation, Dah and Hanu are beautiful hilly villages in the Ladakh Region. The places witness the maximum tourists between the months of October To June. They provide you with an opportunity to visit the gigantic Hindukush mountains and the great Indus River. Dah Hanu is basically the main village of the Dards. The landscapes are full of apricot ans apple trees. The villges offer an enchanting and romantic view of the sunrise and sunset from the hills.

Kishtwar

The upland valley of Kishtwar, comprising Kishtwar National Park as well, is a major hill station in Jammu region. The area boasts of The Pir Panjal range, Great Himalayan Ranges, and the Chenab river that not only form a unique ecosystem and bio-geographical pattern but also draws lakhs of tourists every season. The hills are ideal for trekking and mountaineering, while the lands are perfect for growing saffron. The wooded hills are provided contrast with beautiful waterfalls. These wooded hills and the Kishtwar National Park are rich in wildlife like snow-deer, leopard, Neel Gai and musk-deer. Although a small region, Kishtwar is rich in all such attractions as well as pilgrims.

Patnitop

112 Km from Jammu, this famous hill resort is perched on a beautiful plateau, at an altitude of 2024 metres across which the Jammu-Srinagar Highway passes. Enveloped by thickly wooded forests, Patnitop offers beautiful picnic spots, peaceful walks and breathtaking views of the of the Chenab basin. In winter, the resort is generally covered with a thick mantle of snow thus providing opportunities for various snow games including skiing. It is the best-developed tourist spot of Jammu and is second to none in its natural charm, climate, pine forests and lush green cover. The occupancy of the huts and Dak Bungalow is full in summer months.
