History
The hill resort of Peermade used to be the summer retreat of the rulers of Travancore. The name 'Peermade' means "hill of peer"

The Peermade is a beautiful hill station, that looks even more beautiful, thanks to lots of coffee, tea, coconut and rubber plantations.

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary
One of the largest wildlife reserves in India, this is just 43 kms from Peermade. Herds of wild elephants frolicking in its splendid lake forms a major attraction. An abundance of other wildlife including sambar, flying squirrels, tigers and laughing thrushes can be observed at close quarters.

About 43 km away from Peermade is the famous Periyar wildlife Sanctuary. It has elephants, tigers, sambhar and many other animals, which attract people from all over. Many say that you may actually spot some of these animals in the grasslands of Peermade. Some of these are, Monkeys, Languor and Bison.

About 4km from Peermade are the Thrissanku hills, which is a great place to go on long walks and enjoy the beautiful sunset and sunrise.
