Rajasthan is a large state in northwestern India. It is the homeland of the Rajputs, who are known for their chivalry, valor and heroism. The capital is Jaipur and other large cities are Ajmer , Jodhpur , Bikaner , Kota , and Udaipur. Rajasthan has a total area of 342,239 Sq.Km.
Rajasthan is among the richest states in the country as far as the field of arts and crafts is concerned. Stone, clay, leather, wood, ivory, lac, glass, brass, silver, gold and textiles are given the most brilliant forms. The pretty hill station of Mt. Abu stands as a contrast to the arid landscape of the rest of Rajasthan. Situated in the Aravalli Hills, it has forests, waterfalls, ravines and gigantic rock formations in bizarre shapes. The hilly retreat is known for its pleasant climate throughout the year and was a favourite summer resort of the British. Mt. Abu surrounds a beautiful lake and is located at an altitude of 1,220 m above sea level. It is also the site of the exquisite Dilwara Jain temples. Till the 11th century, the hill station was an important Vaishnav and Shiva pilgrimage centre. The only hill town of Rajasthan is visited for its scenic locales and unhurried lifestyle. It is the only hill station in Rajasthan and stretches along a 22 km long and 6 km wide plateau.
