Sikkim Hillstations

With a very small geographical area, Sikkim is not very replete with hill stations though yet the most popular one in the state remains Gangtok. The enthralling beauty and cultural extravagance of Gangtok has contributed a great deal in making the town a most sought after hill station of North East. Gangtok literally means a hill top which in itself is a treat for the nature lovers. This garden state spread in the foothills of mighty Mount Kanchendezonga is also the capital city of Sikkim. Long boulevards through the town wrapped in a sheet of colors and freshness in the form of flowers blooming here truly leaves the tourists content.

A wide array of plants, flowers, birds, butterflies and wild herbs comes as a real delight to the tourists visiting this lofty hill. To add more to the exasperating charm of Gangtok, the colorful Lamas robed in Red, exotic monasteries bordered by fluttering flags and the ever smiling amiable people of the region act as colorful plumes in the beauteous cultural feather of the town. Famous for housing over 500 species of orchids, Gangtok is at its floral best from April to June and October to early December.

Gangtok

Gangtok is a bewitching hill-station located amidst the multiple-hued mountains of Sikkim. Being the capital, Gangtok is the hub of all political and legal activities of Sikkim. The literal meaning of 'Gangtok' is 'hilltop'. Located in the lower Himalayas, Gangtok is a perfect destination to spend some quality moments in solitude. To confine the beauty of this city in words would be equivalent to say get the sea into a vessel.

Maenam Hill

A lush green landscape in conjunction with snow-cloaked mountains enlivens the idea of Hindi movies. In South Sikkim, Maenam Hill is just as equally beautiful place where the green hinterland becomes prominent with that white backdrop made by mountains. At an astonishing height of 3,235 meters, Maenam Hill is located above Tendong Hill, patting the Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary. Maenam Hill is actually the apex of the ridge that divides the Teesta and the Rangeet, the two major river systems of Sikkim.

Pelling

It is a beautiful hill-station, nestled between the snow-covered peaks of Sikkim. Located at a distance of 10kms from Geyzing, Pelling is renowned for being the nearest site to Mt. Kanchenjunga. The scenic beauty of Pelling cannot be circumscribed in words and really requires a proximate look to feel the quietude. Elevated to the height of 6,800 ft, Pelling is the best place to get a close view of the entire mountain range.

Tendong Hill

The hill is a vantage point that provides a spectacular view of the valley in Sikkim. Located at an altitude of 8530 ft above Damthang, Tendong Hill is a renowned landmark in southern part of Sikkim. Owing to its tranquility, Tendong had been the hermit of Buddhist Lamas, who had spent years in meditation amidst the quiet scenic opulence. From the top of Tendong Hill, the vista appears to be inconceivable. It seems as if God himself might have thought twice after its creation, where everything is just perfect.
